Sophia Ayer

Biography:
Sophia Ayer is a violinist in her senior year studying with Robert Lipsett at the Colburn School.
Previous teachers include Pasha Sabouri and Sandy Yamamoto. Sophia has been a
prizewinner and laureate in competitions including the Sphinx Competition, Juanita Miller
Concerto Competition, and Starlight Orchestra Young Artist Competition, and has soloed with
the Sphinx Symphony and Starlight Symphony. In 2019, she was selected as a recipient of the
Arkady Fomin Scholarship, and was also awarded the Sphinx Organization’s MPower Artist
Grant. Sophia has performed in masterclasses for artists including Miriam Fried, Ida Kavafian,
Vadim Gluzman, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Arnaud Sussmann, and the Emerson String
Quartet. She has attended festivals including the New York String Orchestra Seminar, Aspen
Music Festival and School, ENCORE, and the Meadowmount School. She plays on violin Opus
821, made by Douglas Cox, violin maker in Brattleboro, Vermont on generous loan from the
Virtu Foundation.
