Biography:

 

Born in Yerevan, Armenia, Garri Hovsepyan, began his musical studies at the age of six in the S. Jrbashyan School of Music with the renowned Professor Valery Antonyan. From 2011 to 2016, he studied with Professor Vahe Hayrikyan at the Tchaikovsky School of Music in Los Angeles, California. In 2007, Garri was awarded first prize in the “Alexander Spendiarov” Competition in Yerevan, Armenia. In 2009, he received first prize in the “Armenian Allied Arts” Competition in Los Angeles, CA. Garri made his debut as a soloist with the Sonora Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of eleven. Since then, he has appeared with them as a soloist in many performances. Garri performed as a member of the National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Mexico (OSIM) in 2011-2013. During the summers of 2015 and 2016, Garri participated in Boston University Tanglewood Institute of Music at the Young Artists Orchestra and String Quartet Workshop, working with members from both the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Muir Quartet. Garri attended the Music Academy of the West in the summer of 2018. As a winner of the annual Concerto Competition, he will be performing as a soloist with the Music Academy Festival Orchestra in the 2019 season. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree at the Eastman School of Music under the tutelage of Professor Steven Doane and Rosemary Elliott. Garri currently plays on a cello by Andrea Castegnari, a loan generously made possible by the Virtu Foundation.
