Foundation announces Competition Winners

9/6/2011

Several  musicians will receive new instrument scholarships as a result of the 2011 Scholarship Competition.  The Competition drew a large number of applicants, commented Foundation officer Anne Chapin.  “There were so many very qualified young musicians, it was difficult to reduce the number of finalists to equal the number of available instruments”, Ms. Chapin added.

Receiving Scholarships are:  cellists Elena Korableva  (Boston Conservatory) and Taide Prieto-Carpio (Boston Conservatory); violist Alexia DelGiudice (Boston Conservatory); violinists  Olga Caceanova, (New England Conservatory),  Gregory Tompkins (New England Conservatory) Brandon Zachary (Music Institute of Chicago) and  Wei-Heng Ku  (Julliard).

Luthier Jeffery Holmes, of J. S. Holmes Fine Violins, Ann Arbor, Michigan, in consultation with each Scholar’s teacher assists in the preparation of and fitting the Foundation’s instruments.
